Novofem® Information for Physicians

For years you have probably advised your patients not to use vaginal douches because they were potentially harmful. And, you were right. The reason is that harsh douches destroy all of the lactobacilli bacteria in the vagina, which can create more problems than a cleansing douche solves.

The input of a dozen practicing gynecologists and an exhaustive review of world literature over the last 30 years, including all prescription and OTC products, generated two patents. Novofem’s patents are for a method and composition that kill vaginal yeast while not destroying the lactobacilli important to normal homeostasis of vaginal microflora.

The graph above shows that Novofem® promotes the growth of lactobacilli over a four-hour period, while the two category leaders completely obliterate the lactobacilli within one hour of use. All data was in vitro. Extrapolation to in vitro use can be expected because several other factors were included in testing.

Albumin, at various concentrations, was included to simulate inflammatory exudate experienced during vaginal infections. The active ingredients were effective over a wide range of concentrations. This will allow for dilution within the vagina.
